For those looking to take in Alaska’s stunning natural landscapes, hiking some of the famous Chilkoot Trail can be incredibly memorable. Luckily, some of the main trailheads are located just steps from Skagway cruise port. You can also visit Gold Rush Cemetery, where many famous prospectors and town residents are buried. Since Skagway is located more south than some of Alaska’s other towns and cities, temperatures are relatively mild.
All travelers disembarking in Galveston must pay a "personal importation tax" on all alcohol and cigarettes purchased onboard the ship or in ports of call. Practically every stop has an opportunity to shop and most goods are superb value, though best prices will require some bartering. Scarfs, bags and drawstring elephant trousers are ubiquitous. Phnom Penh's Central Market and Siem Reap's night market are also great for a splurge. Most of the town’s main attractions and amenities are easily walkable from the cruise port. For those with more time to work with, hopping aboard the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad is an incredible experience.
